Fans
of classical music are affluent and have a reputation of having
"arrived". What's more, their high education levels ensures that
they keep up with online trends & technologies.
In
the USA (as per a recent National Radio Study by Scarborough Research),
fans of classical radio are big online spenders. They have an upscale
reputation and are more likely to purchase airline tickets, books
& computer hardware via the Internet. They are among the first to
adopt high-speed, broadband internet connections. And most own their
homes / apartments which they manage with their high household incomes.
Given
the general profile of the average listener of classical music,
it comes as no surprise that music giants like Sony Music maintain
websites dedicated for classical music lovers!
Logically,
most European countries should conform to the same listener pattern
as U.S.A.
India
has a classical music segment which comprises of Western classical
as well as Indian classical music. Aficionados of both these genres
are expected to conform to the global profile of classical music
listeners.
Despite this, there is no Indian radio station which is dedicated
to classical music. (This notwithstanding the recent spate of Indian
FM stations with more in the pipeline.)
