Television

TV is the leading medium here and scores over other mediums. Satellite penetration is almost 50% in urban Gujarat.

There are a handful of Gujarati satellite channels like Gurjari, Tara Gujarati and Alpha Gujarati apart from the terrestrial channel DD Ahmedabad.

Though DD Ahmedabad has the largest reach and quite strong here, the private channels are either undergoing revamp or may shut down very soon as they have been unsuccessful in establishing viewer interest and hence negligible revenues. Interestingly the Gujarati viewers prefer to watch Hindi channels like Star Plus which has the highest viewership ratings among TV channels. In fact, the top Star Plus program Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi owes much of its success to the Gujarat/Gujarati viewers.

Radio

The important radio channels here are Vividh Bharati station and Primary channel station Ahmedabad. Film music and devotional programs are popular among Gujaratis. The interactive program "Aap Ki Farmaish" which is a film music on request program tops in Vividh Bharati. The Vividh Bharati, Ahmedabad station covers a population nearly 35 lacs. There is no FM Station Service available in Gujarat as yet.
