French
State broadcaster France TV is about to broadcast its content on
YouTube Europe. What
is the significance of
this on YouTube? For one thing, the content is going broadcast-quality.
And there's a new, just-round-the-corner, ad revenue model!
Google has signed up with France Televisions for its France 4 channel
to share content on Google's new video-sharing website YouTube Europe.
Although Google's intentions seem more to get a toehold in not-so-friendly
Europe, this could be a significant development for the entire broadcasting
business.
By broadcasting programs of a number of European TV channels on
YouTube, (Google is rumored to be currently speaking to many European
TV channels for this), Google is not only fighting popular European
online video sites like www.dailymotion.com,
but also setting up its
future advertising revenue models a la traditional TV !

YouTube's Recent Deals with 'Old' Media
YouTube has just signed a deal with U.S. based broadcaster
Hearst-Argyle TV to distribute their video clips on
YouTube. Content includes news, weather, local program
clips & high school sports from Boston, Sacramento,
Pittsburgh, Baltimore & Manchester (New Hampshire).
While this is the first time YouTube has made a deal
for local video, it has allied with major broadcasters
like NBC & CBS. As recently as March, CBS tapped YouTube
to create an NCAA channel for streams of the basketball
games.
The basic objectives of the channels are clear: Increase
viewership & generate new ad revenues.

Free Music for The Masses
Downtown Records has just announced a free online record label
called "RCRD LBL" which will be completely supported by ad revenues.
Even as the big 3 record labels* fiddle! RCRD LBL is to be launched
this fall, and will offer exclusive music free of cost via niche
blogs : thus giving advertisers highly targeted advertising opportunities.
A sort of commercially evolved YouTube or MySpace for music.
