Apple
Computers' latest "small device, huge potential" product is addressed
to the rapidly melding
world of online & television. It connects the TV set wirelessly
to any PC or Mac, making it easy to enjoy digital & online media
on your TV set. Did we hear someone say "finally" ?!
Apple TV Technically
speaking, Apple's
Airport connects
your PC to your TV set through available standard ports using high-speed
wireless capability (IEEE 802.11). So that you can treat your TV
set as an additional (wirelessly connected) monitor.
Microsoft Xbox
Microsoft's Xbox is another product which addresses melding of online
& television. Unlike the Airport, Xbox is wired to the TV set
and acts like a set-top box for IPTV and connects to your IPTV service
provider. (In addition to playing games, connecting to the Internet,
downloading & storing digital content, Xbox gives you the option
to susbcribe to IPTV - provided your service provider has tied up
with Microsoft.)
But all things considered, Apple's device stands out for its simplicity.
On one level, it is a simple wireless device which extends your
PC to your TV set. But on another level, it elegantly brings online
video to your living
room" TV
set !
