Brave New World

The Day is Not Far . . .
Imagine each expense voucher entered in your branch office computers being automatically updated in the H.O. central computer. Located in the security of your office. (Not a web server.) Instantly, without any manual intervention. Seamlessly, with automatic acknowledgements. And high levels of security.
No more waiting for financial reports from branch offices! With the branch data available in the H.O. central computer, reporting is actually a matter of pressing a few keys.

Next, can visualize your ad agency computer automatically sending an (electronic) Release Order (R.O.) to a TV Channel's computer? And the TV Channel application automatically updating the R.O. in its database? With the ad agency computer receiving an electronic acknowledgement with date-time stamp? And recording the acknowledgement details in its database? All automatically, seamlessly.

A step further: the R.O. is also automatically updated in the H.O. Central Media Deals Database for real-time monitoring of Media Deals.

Now, imagine all this happening before the R.O. printing is complete?

Can it get any better than this?

Yes! For example, if communications (to the Internet) are down, local applications continue un-interrupted working on their local database. The elctronic R.O.s are saved in a queue / buffer, to be automatically sent to the destination as soon as communication links are up.

If all this sounds a little far-fetched, then it’s time for a reality check. Because EAI (End-to-end Application Integration) is already beginning to happen.

Soon, the preferred way of doing business will involve routine integration of different software applications, making them update each other’s databases. Seamlessly, with no manual intervention & high levels of security.

EAI technology will change every aspect of business-
     • Reporting between Business Units & HO
     • Business transactions between Supply Chain
     • Business transactions between Client / Distribution Chain

EAI Technology
How do you seamlessly integrate different software applications located across the globe?
•By defining business documents (XML Schemas) which can be updated in other application software.
•By triggering electronic (XML) documents automatically from application software.
•By ensuring security with a robust data (payload) encryption system & digital certificates (PKCS).
•By using the Internet as a Local Area Network (LAN / WAN) –
for this you need to deploy a Message Broking Server to ensure end-to-end transfer of documents
from one software application to another with acknowledgements.
•By devising efficient techniques for co-relating master codes/entities of indidividual software applications.

Although there are a lot of efforts initially, they are more than justified by the recurring returns.

DOCUMENTS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS
Physical (Paper) Document
Electronic Document
•Sender's application software prints document
Sender signs document
•Sender's application software generates electronic document with digital signature
•Sender gives document to courier service & collects receipt •Sender's application software passes electronic document to EAI Server & application software stores Server's receipt
•Courier delivers to recipient •EAI Server delivers document to recipient's application software
•Recipient signs courier's slip •EAI Server delivers recipient's acknowledgement to sender's application software

•Courier sends signed slip to sender as
acknowledgement - sender updates his database

•Sender's application software receives & updates acknowledgement

•Recipient reads document & enters data into his application software for further processing •Recipient application software reads document, updates database for further processing
