That television is the future of media is a foregone conclusion!

The advent of Digital TV, Interactive TV, e-Newsmagazines and other electronic media has proved to be a continuous challenge to the (original) role of the newspaper.

Small wonder then, that despite innovations, the past decade has seen very little growth in Indian newspapers.

In the light of the above developments, our Database Group decided to analyse the inflation in English & Hindi newspaper ad rates over the past half decade. And simultaneously computed the % change in circulation during the same period.

As expected, the results were interesting. These have been represented below as 4 graphs (using a circular base for easy comparison) -

1. Hindi Dailies by Major Indian Markets: Ad Rate v/s Circulation
2. Hindi Dailies: Ad Rate Inflation v/s Circulation Growth
3. English Dailies by Major Indian Markets: Ad Rate v/s Circulation
4. English Dailies: Ad Rate Inflation v/s Circulation Growth

SUMMARY
During the past 5 years, English dailies have on an average, inflated ad rates by 26% per year. While circulation has on an average, increased by 3.5% per year. In comparison, Hindi dailies have fared much better - with a circulation growth of 12% p.a. as compared to ad rate inflation of 11% p.a.
Note : All averages are weighted, using latest available circulation figures as "weights". All growth rate % are compounded annually, unless otherwise mentioned.
